I am always amazed by the miraculous changes a woman’s body goes through as she progresses toward motherhood. I decided to document it this time around. Today, my newborn is one month old and I am blown away at not only how fast this month has flown by, but also at how much she has grown and changed already.
On the left is 39 weeks pregnant (a week and 2 days before she was born), and on the right is 2 weeks old.
As a side note, self portraits are funny. For the maternity, I took about 30 takes of running back and forth to the camera each time and adjusting pose, angle, fixing my hair, etc to get the most flattering image. For the newborn I was not in the mood as she was feeling fussy that day, but I also knew I would want this portrait taken before she outgrew her newborn self. I abruptly handed the camera to my husband, showed him the original and just said, “match it.”
Moral of the story: it’s easier to have someone you trust behind the camera than deal with the stress of DIY, sometimes. Also why I had April come back for the baby’s actual newborn portraits instead of doing it alone. Being in the pictures is hugely important! As much as I fuss at myself over how I think I look– and I know all us Moms do that– I know my kids are going to want to see me in photographs when they grow up. Or as I joke about it, “proof that I existed.”
