When you are looking for the stories in your life, it can be challenging to know where to start. One of my favorite ways to gather stories is to ask how the kids like to play. My kids love to make up games and repeat them often. They usually name the game, as well. Their favorite made up games change quickly- they may play something nonstop for a week and then they move on to a new favorite game. I love to record these games because I know as quickly as they cycle through them I won’t remember them at all in the years to come. I will recall that they made games up, but the details will get lost in the hustle and bustle of daily life. By recording these stories, even the smaller details will get remembered- like the hat my littlest is wearing. It was a Christmas gift from Grandma and she wears it in the house almost daily. The scarf they are playing with was made by a different Grandma years ago- when my oldest was a toddler, and it is more used for dress up and games than cold weather gear. These two kids play together the most and fight the most and their relationship is a total rollercoaster- but they always come back together.
These two and their imaginations can find something to play with out of absolutely nothing. They dumped out the laundry to bring the baskets downstairs and he is using a scarf to drag her (in the basket) towards him. Then she gets out and pulls her basket away so he can throw the scarf to her and reel her back in again. I’m not sure if they are in boats or rocket ships, or maybe a little bit of both, but they won’t stop laughing maniacally and I think that’s awesome.
