About a month ago, the Harford County Commission for Women hosted a very important event in their Community Conversation series. Hosted by the New Destiny Evangelistic Church in Edgewood, they held a panel with a community discussion on human trafficking.
While it sounds like a “not in my backyard” horrible-but-distant problem, it’s actually a very local issue. The entire discussion was educational, chilling, and eye-opening, and a much-needed community awareness talk.
The evening featured a panel including professionals from the FBI, Maryland State Police, Harford County Sheriff’s Office, and SARC (the Sexual Abuse Resource Center) in Harford County. Discussions included a trauma-informed approach by law enforcement in sex trafficking cases, information about how predators groom victims, legislation, prevention, and recovery. Audience members were invited to ask questions.
The Harford County Commission for Women sponsors several Community Conversations throughout the year. They invite the public to join as we discuss relevant topics concerning women.
The Harford County Commission for Women consists of 15 volunteer members appointed by the county executive and approved by the County Council.
