We're on the countdown to Christmas and I wanted to share with you some local must-have gift ideas. If you switch even a little of your shopping from Amazon to some locally owned businesses, you can make a huge difference in the community. Manderbug Creations sells the most perfectly made, adorable hair bows for the little fashionista in your life. Ferrari Frame and Design has a shop located behind the Armory in Bel Air. Trish has some gorgeous specialty photo frames that you won't find anywhere else- perfect to gift your recent family … [Read more...]
(cool) progeny’s superhero social
Earlier this month, the super-cool blog (cool) progeny hosted a Superhero Social to benefit the Little Lion Challenge (where small acts of kindness make a big ROAR). Haven't heard of the Little Lion Challenge? They are dedicated to providing comfort and “a little bit of kindness” to families who have children in critical care situation or those with children who have complex medical needs; to support those in the medical community providing care for these children and their families; to inspire others, especially children, to do their … [Read more...]
Harford County Commission for Women – Community Conversations
About a month ago, the Harford County Commission for Women hosted a very important event in their Community Conversation series. Hosted by the New Destiny Evangelistic Church in Edgewood, they held a panel with a community discussion on human trafficking. While it sounds like a "not in my backyard" horrible-but-distant problem, it's actually a very local issue. The entire discussion was educational, chilling, and eye-opening, and a much-needed community awareness talk. The evening featured a panel including professionals from the FBI, … [Read more...]
Eco-friendly Money Savers
I recently had the honor of coming back to Midday Maryland in celebration of Earth Day as the "Queen of All Things Green!" I've got 4 products that save the Earth and save you money. Tubshroom/ SinkShroom/ ShowerShroom and Kitchen SinkShroom Tubshroom and SinkShroom are a family of drain protectors created so people don't have to pour harmful chemical-laden cleaners down their drains. Those drain cleaners not only release harmful toxins in the air when used, but they also strip pipes because they are so corrosive. Those stripped … [Read more...]
4 products you didn’t know you needed for your home happy hour
I recently appeared on Midday Maryland, promoting 4 products to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at home. But you know, it got me thinking- these are so much more useful than just St. Patrick's Day. I don't know about you, but in my neighborhood, we have the occasional happy hour on nice days. The neighbors get together and hang out on someone's porch while the kids play in the evenings. It's fairly regular in the summer- Friday night toasts to surviving another week. So without further ado, check out my spot on Midday … [Read more...]
Hand Lettering Class at Julie Ellyn Designs: Welcome Spring
I'm excited to announce that I'll be teaching another beginner's hand lettering class at Julie Ellyn Designs on Main Street in downtown Bel Air on Wednesday March 13! This is another faux calligraphy class with a watercolor-style background, suitable for any skill set. This is so easy that you don't need any drawing ability- anyone can make this piece of art. We will be welcoming spring with "Hello Spring" lettered on art paper with simple flower drawings and a watercolor-style background made with markers. Tickets include all materials … [Read more...]
New Class: Hand-lettered Valentine’s Day Cards
Valentine's Day can feel so corporate. What should be a holiday of love ends up being a day where you feel obligated to buy a card. Except that usually means standing in the greeting card aisle of Target for way too long, reading countless cards that just don't line up with your relationship. Too serious, too mushy, too generic, too sarcastic. Whatever happened to a heartfelt card? Something with meaning or thought behind it. Can something like that be purchased? This year, skip the store and make a heartfelt (or funny, or mushy or serious) … [Read more...]
SARC Gala
Last month, SARC hosted their famous Balloon Glow Gala, a spectacular annual fundraiser. If you aren't familiar with SARC, they are an unfortunately much-needed resource in Harford County. SARC (The Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center) is Harford County’s lifeline to victims, potential victims, and survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse and stalking. Working within the community, we are the catalyst for the eradication and prevention of violence. SARC is a lifeline for victims and survivors of domestic … [Read more...]
Springtime at Urban Pearl Boutique
The Urban Pearl Boutique is one of my favorite Main Street Bel Air shops. With a quickly changing selection of clothes each week, you never know what you are going to find but you know it will be something you love. The clothing is all one-of-a-kind finds on Main Street, so when I fall in love with a top or a dress (which happens every time I'm in the store) I know it's either purchase it now or never see it again. All of my favorite date night outfits are from here. I recently had the pleasure of photographing their spring line. It's … [Read more...]
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
It's almost time for Walk A Mile In Her Shoes! I thought I'd share last year's photos with you as we count down until this year's event. The big day will be Saturday, April 28, 2018. The festivities begin at 9:30, with the walk kicking off at 11, in the parking lot next to Black Eyed Suzies. It wraps up at noon, just in time for you to enjoy Main Street's restaurants for lunch. If you don't know what it is, it's a fantastic fundraiser for SARC- Harford County's Spousal Abuse/Sexual Assault Resource Center. And not only does it raise funds … [Read more...]
